Certification Overview
The IECEx CoPC Inspector/Auditor Certification confirms that an individual has demonstrated the competence required to perform inspections and audits within hazardous areas. This certification is intended for experienced hazardous area technicians or supervisors seeking formal IECEx recognition for their ability to inspect, assess, and verify compliance in explosive atmospheres. The certification covers the key IECEx units relevant to inspection and audit functions, validating the candidate’s competence in conducting thorough evaluations of explosion-protected equipment and installations to ensure safety and conformity with international IEC standards.
-
Design electrical installations intended for use in or associated with explosive atmospheres in accordance with IEC 60079 series principles.
-
Conduct comprehensive audit inspections of electrical installations within hazardous areas to verify that they meet all applicable safety and compliance requirement
About Our IECEx CoPC Advanced Electrical Inspection Certifcation
The student will gain the following two additional units on top of their existing units as part of this upgrade:
| Unit Code | Description |
| Ex 009 | Design electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres |
| Ex 010 | Perform audit inspection of electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres |
This course is designed as an advanced training program to upgrade hazardous area technicians and installers into skilled hazardous area inspectors. It is required that candidates have already attained the following prerequisite units:
| Unit Code | Description |
| Ex 000 | Basic knowledge and awareness to enter a site that includes a hazardous area |
| Ex 006 | Test equipment in explosive atmospheres |
| Ex 007 | Perform visual and close inspection of electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres. |
| Ex 008 | Perform detailed inspection of electrical installations in or associated with explosive atmospheres. |
Design of Electrical Installations (Ex 009):
Certification confirms the individual is competent to design electrical installations for hazardous areas in accordance with the IEC 60079 series, ensuring appropriate selection, specification, and application of explosion-protection techniques to achieve safe and compliant outcomes.
Audit Inspections (Ex 010):
Certification confirms the individual is competent to conduct audit inspections of electrical installations in hazardous areas, verifying compliance with the IEC 60079 series and ensuring installations meet applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
1 Day: Certification is conducted over one day and involves formal assessment of competency against the IECEx CoPC requirements for hazardous areas.
This certification is ideal for professionals involved in the inspection of hazardous areas, including inspectors, engineers, and safety personnel. It is suitable for those seeking to achieve or renew their IECEx CoPC certification for inspection-related competencies.
Candidates are expected to have prior training and relevant industry experience, as this process involves assessment and certification only.
A minimum of 3 years experience in general electrical installation or inspection practice, a minimum of 2 years experience in hazardous area electrical installation inspection practice.
Students must already hold the following three competencies: Units Ex 000, Ex 002, Ex 008 and Ex 009.
Visit the Prerequisite Knowledge for IECEx CoPC Units page for specific details on each unit’s Prerequisite Knowledge.
Upon successful completion of the examinations, candidates are issued an IECEx Certificate of Personnel Competence (CoPC) for the relevant units assessed. This certification formally recognises the individual’s demonstrated competence to perform duties within explosive atmospheres in accordance with the IECEx Scheme.
